The needs of the students attending school in the Ashwaubenon School District continue to change.
In 2005-2006, 18% of Ashwaubenon School District families qualified for free or reduced lunch. In 2013-2014 that number rose to 34%. Some schools in Ashwaubenon are approaching 50% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch.
In 2006-2007, 33 students were identified as being homeless in Ashwaubenon. In 2013-2014, 109students were identified as being homeless.
Recognizing the unique educational challenges that often face students when their families experience financial difficulties, the Ashwaubenon School District social workers have developed several programs to help families alleviate some of the stress.
One of these programs is ASHCARES. This is a network of people who receive notification via email when an Ashwaubenon student/family is in need.
Items requested may be as simple as 4T pants or winter boots and can be new or gently used. To become part of the ASHCARES network, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Bethany has designated “ASHCARES” as an on-going mission project. Our Senior High Sunday School students have been working on “tie-blankets” for ASHCARES as part of their outreach ministry.
